Why we do what we do

I've been asked several times why I like photography and for me its an escape. It helps you to see the world through a different lens - (photography pun)... but yeah I started off just taking a bunch of pictures, and trying to get pictures that were more in focus. Once I got the technical aspects of photography down as well as the limits of my gear, I could then spend more of my time on the art and composition aspects, the part I really enjoy.
I now see the world much differently. You notice the little things and see the beauty in symmetry or even lack of symmetry. Colors seem to almost speak to me at times, where before I was seemingly blind to the harmonization and interplay certain color combinations can have.
Another thing was realizing the power a picture can have on someone. I remember a client telling me almost in tears, "I didn't realize I was beautiful...". You know we are usually are toughest critic and we spend most of our lives looking at ourselves the same way, and photography has the power show us what we look like from the perspective of someone else... now that is powerful stuff there!
The best thing of all though is capturing moments for people and story telling. Moments can be lost from memory but a quick glance at a picture can bring it all back instantly and place you back into that moment.
